The Grand Palace and The Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The buildings date back to 1782 when Bangkok became the new capital of Thailand. The temple structures are extremely colourful, being comprised of gleaming, gilded chedis, polished orange and green roof tiles, mosaic-encrusted pillars and rich marble pediments. |

Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun). The tall, 82 metre prang was constructed during the first half of the 19th century. Its brick core has a plaster covering embedded with a mosaic of broken, multi-hued Chinese porcelain. The ashes of King Rama II are interred in the base of the bot's Buddha image. |
