Surin Beach: The scene they were shooting today involved the arrival on Koh Pha Ngan (Koh Samui in the book). Richard and a group of other backpackers were in the back of a songthaew bus taking them from the ferry to their beach resort. They had already done the close-ups of Leonardo before we had arrived. So all we saw were them doing some wide shots. The camera was mounted on the back of a pick-up and the songthaew followed behind. We talked to a number of the backpackers who had been recruited for the movie as extras. Some of them had already been in a number of different scenes in various locations. We got plenty of photographs of these people including the latest person to be recruited as Leonardo's double!

Backpackers were recruited to play backpackers. The above extras rode in the bus whilst others walked alongside the road. The man to the right is the double for Leonardo who comes from Norway. Apparently the second to be used in the movie. I was about to ask his name when I got thrown off the set! (photographs by thaistudents.com)

More backpackers. If you were one of the backpackers then please send us an e-mail and tell us about your experiences. (photographs by thaistudents.com)
